Plumbing work that doesn't require a permit

There are many plumbing projects that don't require a permit. Some are cosmetic like a simple faucet fix. Others require more work, like the relocation of pipes. In these cases, it is possible to hire a professional plumber. Regardless of the type of work, the proper permits and licenses are important to ensure a successful project.

Major projects that involve the alteration of plumbing systems or fixtures in a house or business will require plumbing permits. They are issued to ensure safety for the public and come often with inspections. To prove their competence, plumbers are granted plumbing licenses.

Although permits may be required for larger plumbing projects, permits are not necessary for smaller ones. Rough-in permits are required for larger projects, such bathroom remodels. Contractors can start pipe-laying by themselves without needing to cover any of their work. Final inspections are required after completion of the initial stages.

How To

How do I replace a cracked window?

The most common home improvement task is to replace broken windows. This involves fixing any damage caused by the glass. Repair work in this instance should take no more than 30 minutes. You could end up causing more damage to your house if you don't know the best way to replace a damaged pane. This article contains some tips to help you replace a damaged window.

First step: Take the glass out of its frame

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, move the window up slightly to remove it from the sill plate (the bar that runs below the floor). Next, remove any remaining screws using a pry instrument until they are loosen. After the panes are taken off, thoroughly clean them.

Next step: Clean the glass

Use a dry paper towel or cloth to remove any dirt from the glass. A spray bottle filled with water, rubbing alcohol and water can be used to clean debris stuck beneath the glass.

Third Step: Reinstall new glass

Attach the window frames to the panes. Begin by gently pressing down on one end of the outermost panel with the tip a screwdriver. Gently push back the pane into place in the opening. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. You can seal the gap between the panes with a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth Step: Repair the affected area

To determine if additional repairs are necessary, inspect the area surrounding the hole before installing the glass. Two small pieces of wood should be placed along the edges of each hole if the crack is near the corner. These wooden blocks will give strength to the window and act as spacers between the glass and the weatherproofing material.

Fourth step: Sealing the area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will seal the glass to the wallboard. You can find silicone caulking in hardware stores and online. Make sure you choose a color that is consistent with the wall's existing paint.

Allow the caulking to cure overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. If you don't wait long enough, you could cause the caulking to crack when you remove it.
